Description The collection of the Knights of Pythias includes: Minutes, Journals, Visitors Registers, Rosters, Correspondence, and Constitutions & By Laws as well as histories and photo slides -- lantern size. The collection is in chronological order by document series.
Notes History: The Fraternal Order of Knights of Pythias is an international fraternity, which was founded in Washington, DC, February 19, 1864, by Justus H. Rathbone, and embraces more than two thousand subordinate lodges in the United States. The Fraternal Order of Knights of Pythias promotes cooperation and friendship between people of good will. The Knights of Pythias were organized early in Butte's history. The lodges: Calanthe Lodge #40. Knights of Pythias of the Grand Domain of Montana Castle was on Broadway Street. The Damon Lodge met at 39 North Main Street; Ivanhoe Lodge met at the Good Templars Hall; Oswego Lodge #9, organized September 2, 1884, met in Centerville in The Sons of St. George Hall. There was also a Silver Bow Lodge. The Knights of Pythius was disbanded in Butte in 1999 after over 100 years in existence. It provided its members with sick and death benefits.
